John Benton is a self-taught professional photographer residing in Hampton Roads, Virginia. John first began shooting Fashion and Wedding Photography but gradually switched to Artistic Beauty and Boudoir photography while still implementing Fashion into his form. His simplistic body of work likes to have the viewer interpret their own conclusions on what is being expressed and not lead the viewer to a certain theme.
John began discovering his creative talents at an early age through writing poetry and illustrations. It wasn't until he went into film production that he realized that photography was his true passion and began transitioning into photographic imaging. From there, John has gone on to be published in several magazines around the country and overseas as well as become an ambassador for other businesses in the field. John also uses his multiple social media outlets to document his travels and his journey into becoming a recognizing figure in photography industry.
His vision is to create a definition of art that pushes the envelops of whats accepted and whats new while adding his own unique style and inspiration to his work. He wants to in his own words "show one's personality and deepest self outside the images of what is expected of them" as well as "keep people guessing and show people versions of themselves that the typical person would expect from them".
“VIBES” > “STYLES” is a phrase that I created because I didn’t want to be put into a box of what “genre” my work had to be in. I wanted to show that my work may follow particular themes, but are not defined by them. I wanted to focus more on the energy created by both myself and the clients I work with and the environment we are in and let that set the tone for what we create. If we have a vision of what we wanna create and we build on that with the vibes of making you feel what we are expressing through that vision, the art speaks for itself. A style is only temporary in small pieces of time, a vibe is a feeling that sticks with you for a lifetime. That’s what I aspire to do each time.
